CareerTalk in the Winter Semester 2018/2019

The CareerTalk took place for the first time in the winter semester 2018/2019 and was a complete success. The workshops gave the students the opportunity to look into their own professional future. The extensive range of topics of the workshop series covered a variety of topics that are of particular interest to students on their way into professional life, from the application process and salary negotiations to the compatibility of family and career.

Find out here which workshops were offered in the winter semester 2018/2019.

STARTUP, MEDIUM-SIZED OR LARGE COMPANY - WHAT SUITS ME?

15.11.2018, 15 to 18 o'clock in BZ.07.28 - Speakers: Oona Posch (Aldi), Isabelle Sauerwein (E/D/E), Thomas Klem (Trendcard)

Being able to get involved in a start-up company, get a secure job in a medium-sized company or earn more money in a large company - when looking for a job, applicants usually have the characteristics of potential employers already in their minds. But do the clichés correspond to the reality? Talk to personnel managers from the Aldi Group, the medium-sized company E/D/E and the Start-Up Trendcard during our discussion round and find out which type of company suits you best!

SUCCESSFUL JOB SEARCH - FINDING THE DREAM JOB, BUT HOW?

20.11.2018, 16 to 18 o'clock in B.06.01 - Speaker: Derya Gülsüm (AUBI+)

With the graduation within reach and the desire for the dream job that follows, the path quickly leads to one of the many online job markets that the Internet has to offer. However, the high level of motivation in the job search can quickly drop again when the mass advertisements, which sometimes match one's own profile more, sometimes less well, cause more confusion instead of clarity. This workshop clears up the fog again: Which job markets are there and how do I use them best? Where is the focus of the individual portals? What do I have to pay attention to when looking for a job in social networks? And is it still worth going through the daily newspapers?

THE PERFECT APPLICATION - BUT HOW DO I CREATE THE LAYOUT?

29.11.2018, 16 to 19 o'clock in K.11.07 (Senate Hall) - Speaker: Nader Fadl (University of Wuppertal)

The layout and design of your documents are one of the factors that determine the first impression a company gets of you. Your documents should be appealing, professional and structured - and they should match the advertised position. The individual note provides the final touch. In this crash course you will work with our experts to bring your application up to date. To participate in the workshop, you need to bring your own laptop with you on which PowerPoint is installed and your own application documents in digital and printed form.

COWORKING AND DIGITALISATION - WORK OF THE FUTURE

06.12.2018, 15 to 18 o'clock at Codeks - Speaker: Sophie Blasberg (Codeks)

"Working together" - Coworking is much more than that: It is the coming together of a wide variety of people who work in different areas and participate from each other. Thanks to digitalisation, employees are no longer tied to a traditional workplace, but can now pursue their activities in a coworking space like Codeks in Wuppertal. The target groups are freelancers, companies and commuters who enrich themselves without any envy and share their knowledge here. Get to know the advantages of coworking, the working environments and rental models in the Codeks - and then meet the creative thinkers who have found their place there over a beer after work.

FAMILY AND CAREER - COMBINING INSTEAD OF DECIDING!

15.01.2019, 15 to 18 o'clock in K.11.07 (Senate Hall) - Speaker: Cristina Niehues (Person-Centered and Systemic Coach)

Is it possible to reconcile a career with family planning? Is there the right time to have children without losing your career? This workshop is aimed specifically at female academics with (potential) desire for children and/or children of their own, who want to look at their personal decision making far away from "classical patterns" - not from the perspective of the employer, but from your individual needs. Cristina Niehues will provide input and impulses for possible paths and will conduct practical exercises for self-reflection with the participants.

SALARY NEGOTIATIONS AND EMPLOYMENT CONTRACTS - TIPS & TRICKS

24.01.2019, 16 to 20 o'clock, Senate Hall (K.11.07) - Speaker: Rudolph Röhrl (Hesse-Schrader)

"Please apply with details of your salary expectations" - this sentence often makes graduates feel uncomfortable. How much is your own work worth? And once the first step into the company has been taken, the next bureaucratic hurdle follows: The employment contract. The legal wording often leads to helplessness among future employees. In order to make the procedure easier for you, we offer this workshop: Learn to be more confident in salary negotiations and to keep an overview of employment contracts.

Participation is, like the entire CareerTalk free for you! Our tips for your perfect job application photo: If possible, ladies choose blouses and blazers in simple colours.
